The infiltration rate of a soil is an important quantity for the design of an irrigation system. The Infiltration Demonstration Device, provides a simple but effective way to observe these complex processes. This parameter may vary from one soil to another and depends on soil structure and moisture conditions.

A known volume of water is introduced into each tube and the progress of the infiltration inside the samples is observed. The Infiltration Demonstration Apparatus has 3 pyrex glass tubes in which the soil samples are placed, the base of the tubes being equipped with a perforated plate that can retain the materials while allowing the water to flow. Each cylinder is graduated. A stopwatch supplied with the device allows measurement of infiltration rates.

The appliance must be located near an inlet and a water outlet.
